Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of indirect tax compliance and consultancy experience; Big Four experience preferred
- Degree in tax preferred
- Thrives on collaboration and operates with a strong internal stakeholder mentality
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to quickly identify both risks and opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on both process improvements and results
- Proactive self-starter, resourceful with a strong work ethic
- Capable of working independently as well as working in a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Netsuite is a bonus
- Fluent in spoken and written English

What the job involves
- As a Senior Accountant - Indirect Tax at Cover Genius, you will be a knowledgeable and resourceful member of the Global Tax team
- You will be a trusted partner to our internal stakeholders and collaborate effectively with our external tax service providers, providing indirect tax guidance to enable the business and Cover Genius’ rapid growth
- This role reports into the Director of Global Tax
- Be a solid partner to internal stakeholders, such as the insurance partnerships teams, product teams, and the legal department, providing them global indirect tax guidance (IPT, VAT, GST, Sales Tax, etc)
- Play an integral role in the global tax function, including preparing indirect tax returns by partnering with local tax advisors
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all indirect tax related data and documentation to local third party service providers, ensuring efficient and accurate completion
- Perform month-end close activities such as tax entries and indirect tax position reviews
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and overall process improvement as we build and scale the global team
- Support the Global Financial Reporting team during financial statement audits, which includes the preparation, maintenance, and oversight of audit-ready tax reconciliations and workpapers
- Support in maintenance of the tax compliance calendars and work with the tax director and external tax advisors to maintain compliance
- Partake in ad hoc finance and tax projects and analyses

Insurance plans and warranties are staples of a successful digital company, but setting them up is challenging. Businesses must compare and write contracts with insurance providers which require the expensive assistance of legal and financial teams, Add to this the cost of web designers who can embed the service online, and insurance and warranties quickly become unaffordable to smaller businesses.
Cover Genius provides end-to-end APIs called XCover and XClaim for embedding insurance and warranty plans onto online stores, preventing the business from having to compare, arrange and deploy insurance plans themselves. The company's policies are for any business, can be translated into over 40 languages, and are designed to be read easily without unnecessary jargon.
Whilst other insurtech companies offer similar services to Cover Genius, the company has uniquely focused on ensuring its plans are easily readable, translatable, and dynamically priced based on personal requirements. Although the company initially aimed to facilitate insurance and warranty plans for smaller businesses, it also partners with large enterprises such as Ryanair, Amazon, and eBay. In 2024 it secured impressive Series E funding off the back of a year where it achieved 107% year-on-year growth.
