Who you are

5+ years commercial experience building systems with Go
Experience writing RESTful APIs in production environments
Experience using some flavour of SQL for data persistence
Experience documenting APIs with Swagger / Open API
Experience working with event driven systems
Experience building cloud native solutions
Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

What the job involves

We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer, working on the core technology that powers our platform
Extending, improving and optimising our analytics APIs that ingest over 100 million events a month
Creating new data feeds for our commercial partners that deliver valuable data to drive business decisions
Creating brand new APIs and endpoints to support our mobile apps
Working on our e-Receipt data pipeline that extracts purchase data from emails and transforms into structured data
You’ll be working closely with our existing product and engineering team, including Staff backend engineer and Head of Engineering
On the backend we use Go, PostgreSQL and Redis to serve RESTful and gRPC APIs running on Kubernetes, all hosted on GCP
Building new features, modifying existing ones and fixing bugs as they arise
Writing automated tests to keep the quality of our products high
Ensuring the smooth operation of our infrastructure through automated monitoring and alerting
Documenting the backend APIs that are consumed by the engineering team
Working closely with the product team to refine new features and requirements

The company offers internet users a range of products including a browser, app an and existing browser extension, in which they can elect to share their anonymised data in return for redeemable rewards or simply browse in total privacy. The appeal for advertisers is the promise of a more personal approach, reaching only those who would be interested in their products.

Amidst all the noise surrounding data privacy, Gener8’s solution is a clever one. Indeed, the company gained immense traction after an appearance on BBC’s Dragons’ Den which went viral, and was hailed the show’s best ever pitch. Unsurprisingly, the TV appearance led to a successful funding round, which helped the company to accelerate growth. Further funds have also been secured that have supported the launch of Gener8's app as it looks to disrupt the big tech giants.
