Company mission
To deliver honest and transparent financial products that improve users' lives.
Role
Who you are
- You have 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- You have a track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- You have hands-on experience building marketing data and measurement systems using technologies such as Google Tag Manager (GTM/sGTM), GA4, advertising and conversion APIs, customer data platforms (CDPs), attribution or mobile measurement platforms, and consent management platforms
- You have experience building production data pipelines and analytical models using technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow, including event-level data, identity resolution, attribution, or conversion measurement
- You have experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design. You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others
- You are proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, and have developed a suite of tools and practices that enable you and your team to do so safely
- Your experience demonstrates that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build the data and measurement foundations that connect consumer acquisition activity across paid media, SEO/AEO, and other growth channels to downstream outcomes such as signup, conversion, and GMV
- You will work at the intersection of data engineering and marketing technology, building reliable pipelines, identity and event data systems, attribution and conversion measurement, and integrations across our marketing and data ecosystems
- You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Data Engineering so that consent, tagging, identity, and consumer-data requirements are incorporated into measurement architecture from the start
- This role is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys ambiguous cross-functional problems, cares deeply about data quality and operational reliability, and wants to build durable measurement capabilities that help teams understand the effectiveness of consumer growth investments
- You will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers on your team through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring that everyone is supported throughout delivery
- You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs
- You will proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them
- You will support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts
- You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks
- You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example
Our take
Affirm offers point-of-sale loans to consumers, working with merchants like Shopify, KAYAK, and Walmart. Buy now, pay later transactions have grown in popularity in recent years, and this business is tapping into the market with a totally different approach to credit - by delivering the Affirm card, the first US debit card with the option to pay-over-time.
Serving over 21 million consumers and over 300,000 merchants, the company offers flexible payback options ranging from 3 to 36 months. The interest rates run between 0% and 30%, so, while they are not necessarily the cheapest option, Affirm prides itself on having no fees for late payments, no hidden charges, and total transparency about what people will pay before they take out a loan.
Affirm collects payments from the customers and pays the merchants directly, shouldering the risk itself. The company has boosted its market share, expanding its availability beyond the US to include most of Canada, and continues to launch new features and create new partnerships towards bettering its offering.
