Role
Who you are
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, preferably within a start-up or fast-growth, FCA-regulated financial services environment
- Preferable to have experience with API (Authorised payment institution) or E-Money requirements such as safeguarding and client funds reconciliation
- Proven expertise in establishing financial processes, configuring accounting systems, and building teams from scratch
- Strong knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements and UK financial reporting standards
- Experience managing audits and reconciliation processes
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at board level
- Qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline (preferred)
- Familiarity with FCA regulations, UK GAAP/IFRS, and start-up operations
- Familiarity with balance sheet financing
What the job involves
- The Director of Finance will be a member of the UK executive leadership team supporting FCA-regulated consumer credit card lenders, Authorised Payment Institutions and EMoney providers
- Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is critical in establishing and driving the operational success
- Build and develop the finance team, ensuring recruitment of high-calibre talent to support business objectives
- Design and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls suitable for a start-up environment
- Select and configure the general ledger and accounting software to meet business needs
- Establish robust financial reporting structures to support accurate and timely decision-making
- Oversee cash flow management and settlement and ensure adequate liquidity to support operational and strategic goals
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to drive informed decision-making
- Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Oversight, reconciliation and management of safeguarding account
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS
- Oversee reconciliation reporting processes to maintain financial accuracy and transparency
- Manage the audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and ensuring timely resolution of findings
- Ensure compliance with FCA regulations, particularly around financial reporting and risk management
- Maintain and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and maintain regulatory standards
- Oversee securitisation and debt financing for clients where required
Our take
Zeta have resolved a problem long plaguing banks and fintech startups. Antiquated practices mean product launches require working with a range of vendors and tech partners. The result is a time-consuming process with a potentially poor user experience to show for it. Zeta’s ‘Omni-Stack,’ by contrast, was built from the ground up to keep the process seamless and easy.
It has proven a wildly successful proposition and Zeta achieved Unicorn status on their $250 million Series C funding round, led by SoftBank. As sectors develop, fintechs and banking will need to answer new threats and requirements associated with security, privacy, and scalability. The more partners and vendors, the more room for error - so Zeta’s emergence is both timely and enticing.
Their funding is likely to continue apace for more than just the quality of their product. India is the second largest internet market globally and is seeing a flurry of interest from big-name investors like SoftBank and Tiger Global. Therefore, companies are looking to accelerate the rate of development there from promising startups like Zeta.
