Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering with expertise in AWS infrastructure
- This role requires a deep understanding of data-related services
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with data querying and manipulation
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and building data pipelines
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong ability to work independently
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 4-6 years of experience working on similar roles
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages used for data processing
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services, including AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, S3, Athena, Lambda, Redshift, RDS PostgreSQL, and Kinesis is a plus
- Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) and AWS DMS (Database Migration Service)
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment
What the job involves
- We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our team
- You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and solutions that enable efficient data processing and analysis
- In this role, you’ll manage critical data pipelines for millions of dollars of transactions, hundreds of thousands of extracted documents, and thousands of live underwriting decisions
- You’ll work cross-functionally with sales, finance, engineering, and design to help empower data driven decisions
- Design, implement, and optimize data pipelines using DBT, and AWS services like Glue, S3, and Athena among others
- Develop and maintain ETL processes to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources into our data warehouse
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver data solutions that meet business needs
- Ensure data integrity, quality, and security in all data processes and workflows
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and efficient
- Optimize data storage and retrieval strategies to improve performance and reduce cost
- Set up foundational machine learning pipelines and help TruckSmarter to deploy models in production

The massive rise in eCommerce means that truck drivers are at an all-time demand, but the trucking industry massively lags behind many others in technological advancements. TruckSmarter delivers a free platform that allows truckers, carriers, and dispatchers to search and book loads, streamlining the entire trucking process.
The trucking industry has been historically fragmented, with truckers wasting countless hours searching for their next gig, followed by more time waiting to be loaded or unloaded – which can be very detrimental to truckers who are often paid per mile. Trucksmarter digital trucking platform addresses all these problems. It stands out from the competition – other companies which have sprung up to modernise trucking – by being a free to use service. It makes its revenue by offering truckers same-day payments for each load, in exchange for small percentage of their fee, rather than charging to use the load board itself.
TruckSmarter has raised an impressive amount of funding from top investors and names in the industry, showing the respect for and interest in its solution. The investment will be used to add more finance and banking tools to the company’s driver ecosystem.
