Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in C++ is a must
- Operating Systems: Expert knowledge of Linux, including kernel-level understanding and system-level programming
- Knowledge or experience in robotics platforms, like ROS 2 or similar, is a plus
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in C++ software development
- Proven track record in designing, implementing, and optimizing product-level software in Linux environments
- In-depth experience with multiprocessing and multithreading in large-scale, distributed safe-critical systems
- Prior experience working in robotics, automation, or medical device development is a plus
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns
- Strong knowledge of networking communication protocols
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and low-latency software development
- Familiarity with debugging tools and techniques for software integration
- Familiarity with software and system architecture formality like UML or SysML
- Proficiency with tools like Git/JIRA/Confluence and platforms like GitHub
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Good communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including software engineers, electrical/mechanical engineers, and product managers
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and adapt to new challenges
- Comfortable working in a lab or workshop environment alongside surgical robotic systems
- Ability to work on-site for hands-on software integration
What the job involves
- We are seeking highly motivated, and intellectually inquisitive individuals looking to make a positive impact on healthcare via the development of robotic technology
- In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will design components and systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements
- The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: senior engineer, staff engineer, principal engineer or higher
- Design, develop, and optimize software, at different system levels
- Implement scalable, high-performance software modules on Linux platforms
- Engage in detailed software architecture discussions and make decisions that affect system-level behavior
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high performance of software modules
- Engage in pair programming, code reviews, and design discussions to maintain high coding standards
- Design and implement comprehensive test suites, ensuring robustness and resilience
- Debug complex issues related to hardware-software interfaces, and provide innovative solutions to technical challenges
- Ensure reliability and robustness of software through automated testing and performance monitoring
- Keep up to date with the latest trends in software engineering, robotic communication, and distributed systems
- Prototype new ideas and technologies to drive continuous improvement in software performance and reliability
