To simplify business for companies and consumers in Africa by ensuring that payments simply work, at scale, despite fragmentation and complexity that exists on the Continent.
Outside of Nigeria and South Africa, using mobile money is one of the easiest and most common way for people in African countries to send and receive money. But because mobile money systems are run by different companies, they often don't work well together, making it difficult and expensive for businesses to handle payments across multiple countries.
pawaPay is fixing this problem by building one simple system that connects all these different mobile money networks. So, instead of dealing with several telecom companies separately, businesses can use pawaPay's API to make payments across countries. The company handles the difficult parts, like working with local operations, so that its users can operate with ease.
The company has raised significant funding as it prepares to grow its team and expand into more countries. Operating in 18 markets already, and processing over 10 million transactions every week, pawaPay's success is evident. In 2024, it surpassed 1 billion total transactions, and there's still vast potential for expansion in this market that other companies often ignore.
