Who you are
- You Might Be a Great Fit If:
- You’re curious about how paid marketing works, whether that’s performance marketing, digital ads, user acquisition, growth, or media
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a college or university program. Marketing, business, or data-related majors are a plus
- You like numbers and feel comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets
- You’re organized and can juggle a few things at once
- You communicate clearly, in writing and in conversation
- Bonus, but not required: experience with ad platforms, analytics tools, or subscription businesses

What the job involves
- Want to learn how a subscription app really grows? Babbel is looking for a Performance Marketing Intern to join our New York City team
- You’ll help run paid ad campaigns, see what’s working, and help decide what we test next
- You’ll work alongside experienced marketers and get hands-on with the tools and numbers behind paid growth. This is a great start for someone who is looking for a career in marketing!
- Performance marketing means paid ads where we can measure the results, so we know exactly what each ad brings in. You'll join the team that runs these ads for Babbel across search, app, social, and display. You'll see a campaign from the first idea to launch to results, and learn how we decide what to keep, change, or stop. Which channels you focus on may shift based on what the team needs
- Start Date: October (or earlier)
- Internship Duration: 6 months
- Help run paid ad campaigns across search, app, social, and display: get them set up, check everything is working, and keep an eye on budgets
- Build regular performance reports and track the numbers that matter, like spend, installs, subscriptions, and the cost of winning each new subscriber
- Dig into the data to spot what’s working and what isn’t, then suggest what to try next
- Study our ads and our competitors’ ads to find the hooks, messages, and formats that get people to sign up
- Help run tests on ad copy, creative, landing pages, and audiences, and write up what we learned
- Work with teams across Creative, Analytics, Product, and Martech

Babbel is one of the leading lights in the language eLearning sector. Its premium subscription-based online learning resources cover over a dozen predominantly European languages, at all proficiency levels. They include interactive lessons and podcasts - all developed and delivered by professional educators and linguists.
Learning languages online has become big business in recent years, and this has led to a surge of VC investment in the sector. This diversified the field of competition, tripling revenue for smaller rivals like Busuu and driving up engagement on online tutoring sites. It has ramped up pressure on incumbents like Babbel, and its better established (but pricier) competitor Rosetta Stone, to diversify their offerings.
To get there, Babbel has taken a smart cue from live tutoring sites like Preply, which also saw a surge in engagement over recent years. Babbel has launched its own live tuition offering and additional B2B services, demonstrating a savvy use of its leading position and strong resources to keep a tight grip on its substantial market share.
