Who you are
- 5+ years of professional experience, ideally combining work at reputable law firm(s) with in-house legal roles, offering a well-rounded perspective on both external advisory and internal corporate needs
- Proven expertise in managing and optimizing Contract Management Systems and implementing streamlined workflows
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of German civil law
- German qualified lawyer (Volljurist) with at least a "befriedigend" grade in the 1. Staatsexamen and 2. Staatsexamen
- Specialization in contract law, commercial law, or IT law during legal education or professional training
- Expertise in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts related to mobility services, IT solutions and partnerships
- Strong communication (fluent in German and English) and negotiation abilities, bridging legal and operational perspectives
- High attention to detail, ensuring precision and compliance in legal documents and processes
What the job involves
- Our Legal department is looking for another team member to take ownership of impactful projects, including implementing a Contract Management System, overseeing the MILES Group's contractual landscape, and building a legal knowledge center
- This role offers the freedom to shape processes and make a significant contribution to the company's success
- Ownership and Optimization of Contract Management System Process - Implement, maintain and optimize MILES’ contract management system, ensuring efficiency, compliance and seamless integration with business operations)
- Comprehensive Contract Review and Negotiation - E.g., IT related contracts with API integrations, partnership agreements and contracts under German civil law related to MILES’ operations
- Leadership in Legal Projects and Knowledge Building – Lead big legal projects and initiatives while building and maintaining a legal knowledge center to empower teams with practical legal resources
- Support for Ad Hoc Legal and Litigation Needs – Provide legal guidance on emerging issues and support litigation cases when necessary, ensuring the company’s interests are effectively represented
Our take
Car-sharing provides a convenient and cost-effective alternative to car ownership, particularly in large cities where congestion is high and parking space is at a premium. Founded in 2016, MILES has made it easy for German and Belgian commuters to get around without owning a car or getting on a bus.
The German ride sharing sector is quite heavily contested, and while MILES is one of the larger providers it lacks the customer base of its primary rival SHARE NOW. Where it hopes to compete is in its pricing plan, which is measured by distance rather than minutes, providing a less pressured experience for its customers. So far this has worked well for the company, allowing it to multiply its revenue year on year and achieve profitability only four years after its founding. It currently serves more than 200,000 customers and has a fleet of over 13,000 vehicles.
MILES acquired the car sharing arm of Volkswagen in 2022 and integrated it into its own offering. Aside from increasing the size of MILES' fleet part of the deal allows VW customers to book cars through their existing VW mobility app, increasing MILES' customer base. MILES' is working to increase the electrification of its fleet, expand its market presence in Germany and Belgium, and develop new products for its customers such as longer-term rentals and city-to-city rides.
