Company mission

There’s parcel delivery. And then there’s HIVED. We’re building the most-loved delivery network at scale, powered entirely by electricity, for a delivery experience you can actually look forward to: fast, reliable and uncomplicated.

Role

Who you are

  • Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role, with 3+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in writing clean, performant, and testable code in typed languages
  • Experience with building distributed systems and working with cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Familiarity with databases, cloud stacks, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer passionate about creating the platform that powers HIVED’s emission-free parcel delivery network
  • As a Mid-Level Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in the full software development lifecycle—from development and implementation to deployment and monitoring.
  • You will contribute to scaling and improving HIVED’s backend infrastructure, ensuring it remains reliable, maintainable, and efficient for both internal and external users
  • You’ll be embedded in a cross-functional team, collaborating directly with other software engineers, product managers and UX designers.
  • The problems your team is solving cover complex routing and optimisation challenges, building intelligent address and parcel locating solutions, external integrations, powering our customer facing apps with (live) tracking data and more.
  • We reimagine parcel delivery from scratch - built on a modern tech stack with sustainability, flexibility and scale at the core
  • Develop and maintain scalable and efficient backend services for HIVED’s internal operations
  • Plan and deliver projects along with other software engineers, product managers and end users
  • Maintain and optimise existing infrastructure, including integrations with third-party services
  • Improve engineering processes, tools, and standards

Our take

Parcel delivery currently relies on fossil-fuel powered vans for the most part — and they pollute the air we breathe, emit large amounts of CO₂ and congest our cities. At the same time, customer service is notoriously poor, unethical business practices are rampant, and the technology is outdated. HIVED offers an alternative: 100% emission-free parcel delivery.

The company's technology is so efficient, it can match – or sometimes even be cheaper – than the current high-emission carriers. HIVED fundamentally sets itself apart from larger competitors by ensuring deliveries are 100% emission free, which will be a significant advantage for it as the UK is witnessing a green economic boom in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The industry's expansion is expected to grow by $141.05 bn globally by 2025, which will undoubtedly be underpinned by a push towards sustainability. HIVED is well positioned to capitalise on this, particularly if it can maintain its current high standards and further strategic investment of funds.
