Who you are
- This individual will possess a flexible skillset and a sophisticated yet playful aesthetic, enabling them to create design-forward event pages and invitations for millions of users' most important life events
- BFA, design-related degree, or 0-2 years of relevant work experience as a graphic designer or illustrator
- Strong illustration and animation skills in a variety of mediums and styles with impeccable attention to detail
- Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop, in addition to After Effects fundamentals (fluency is a strong plus)
- Experience with analog materials such as watercolor, pen/ink and gouache
- An eagerness to continue growing your illustration and design toolkit
- Comfort in a deadline-driven environment, with a strong ability to develop and deliver work in a timely manner and to handle multiple projects at once
- A high level of productivity and proactiveness, especially when developing new ideas
- Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to explain your creative vision/process in relation to the project goals to cross-functional partners
- Comfort taking art direction, receiving feedback and navigating multiple points of view
- An interest in being an avid collaborator and positive force, generous with your time and knowledge
- Experience with any of the following skillsets is a plus: lettering, studio photography, 3D modelling
What the job involves
- Paperless Post is seeking a talented Junior Graphic Designer/Illustrator with strong illustration and design fundamentals
- As a member of the Content Design team, this role will create the visual assets that attract people to our design-forward product, which has revolutionized the stationery world
- With an appreciation for contemporary design and a strong awareness of pop-cultural references, the successful candidate will design dynamic event pages and graphics to surprise and delight our users on our newest platform
- This position reports directly to our Senior Art Director
- Support Art Directors and Senior Designers in creating, designing, and producing original design work for the Paperless Post platform (websites, apps, etc), as well as other branded channels (e.g. blog, social media, etc.)
- Work closely with the Senior Art Director to support the Partnership Team in creating original assets, as well as designing with Partner provided assets to launch new Partner collections
- Support the creation and production of cutting-edge design solutions, original and curated content for our newest platform, including stickers, text, templates, and effects
- Collaborate with Art Directors, Designers, Production Designers and other cross-functional teams in all workflow steps, from content inception to creation to deployment
- Participate in regular brainstorming sessions, critiques, and design talks
- The Paperless Post Content Design Team is a dynamic group of creatives with design, lettering, illustration, and photography expertise. We collaborate closely with our Production Design and Planning teams to create and produce relevant, design-forward customer facing products
- In addition, we collaborate with a wide range of industry leading design partners to create exclusive, original products. . We pride ourselves on our stylistic flexibility and diverse skill set, which we use to create content for a wide array of important life events
Our take
Sending invitations to events can be tedious and time-consuming, and outsourcing design can be expensive too. Paperless Post solves this problem with its technology-led, design-first approach.
Paperless Post first launched in 2009, and since then it has become a clear market leader in a field cluttered with fairly simple design and printing tools. Part of its success stems from its early adoption of mobile phones as a platform - while initially optimized for desktop use the company worked hard to develop its platform for mobile users. This has allowed Paperless Post to consolidate its growth in spite of market changes over the years.
Paperless Post is well-positioned to see considerable growth. It will need to continue to develop its partnerships and technology in order to fend off new competitors, however. Its unique designs and partnerships with brands such as Caroline Herrera go some way to achieving this, and its understanding of communication trends: switching to text message notifications rather than email as younger people abandon email as a way to communicate - indicate that the company is still ahead of the curve.
