Role
Who you are
- 8+ years in alternative data, financial information services, or data solutions
- 5+ years selling data or analytics products to institutional investors
- 5+ years leading sales, account management, or client success teams, with a coaching mindset
- A trusted network across hedge funds, asset managers, private equity, venture capital, and family offices, and fluency in how investors evaluate, buy, and use alternative data
- A record of originating and closing complex enterprise deals and beating revenue targets
- Product instincts: you convert client insight into what gets built next
- An owner's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, fast to test ideas, quick to build structure where none exists

What the job involves
- G2 is the world's largest and most trusted software marketplace, serving 200+ million software buyers a year across 2,000+ categories, including teams at every Fortune 500 company
- All of that buying activity creates a data asset nobody else has: verified reviews, ratings, and real-time buyer intent that reveal where software markets are moving
- Institutional investors already use G2 data to source, diligence, and track software investments
- This team was created in 2022 to sell one of our most strategic and complex solutions, Data Solutions
- We are hiring a Director, Data Solutions to own this business end to end: revenue, clients, team, and product direction
- It is a player-coach role for a commercially driven leader who wants to build, not inherit
- AI is rewriting how software is bought and sold, and G2 is the most-cited B2B software source across AI search platforms. Investor demand for trusted software market signal is accelerating
- You get ground-floor ownership of a high-growth data business inside a profitable category leader, working directly with G2's executive team
- Revenue: own the number. Source and close strategic opportunities across hedge funds, asset managers, private equity, venture capital, and family offices. Build a predictable pipeline with disciplined pricing, packaging, and forecasting
- Clients: be the trusted advisor to senior investment professionals and data strategists. Serve as executive sponsor for strategic accounts and drive adoption, retention, and expansion
- Team: lead and coach a sales and account support team, modeling prospecting through close, and evolve the org as the business scales
- Product: translate investor workflows and market feedback into a clear roadmap with our product, data, and engineering teams

Its rise emphasises just how fragmented and competitive the market is for business software today, and how a company that provides a way to navigate through all the confusion has a very good shot at building a lucrative business.
The company is part of a large group that has sprung up online to provide reviews and competitive analysis of various software products. However, unlike many others, G2 doesn't use an affiliate revenue model, where revenue is earned through advertisements and clicks. G2 instead uses a similar model to Glassdoor, striving for authenticity and credibility.
