Role
Who you are
- System architecture, component selection and design to balance cost and performance constraints
- Schematic capture and PCB layout design for multi layer board (Altium preferred)
- Understanding of electronics manufacturing (board stackups, assembly drawings, gerbers, BOMs)
- Basic understanding of RF and antenna design for ability to interface with external contractors
- Compliance and type approvals for a Global market (CE, UKCA, FCC, IC, etc)
- Experience designing with IoT protocols (Bluetooth and LoRaWAN preferred)

- We are currently very focussed on concrete, which accounts for 8% of global carbon emissions. We do this with two hardware-enabled SaaS products: ConcreteDNA and PrecastDNA. The team comes from all different countries and backgrounds, but we are all dedicated to building the future of construction more efficiently, safely, and sustainably

- As Senior Hardware Engineer, you will design new hardware products and maintain existing ones. You will work with third party suppliers to develop third-party hardware solutions, as well as designing our own in-house. Your contributions will influence the implementation of our industry-changing devices
- Lead in all phases of hardware development from architecture to design to test to final compliance to in-life support
- Work alongside Firmware to efficiently and methodically bring up early stage hardware designs
- Partner closely with Product and Product Engineering to turn market insights and customer feedback into technical specifications
- Strong and methodical documentation skills
- Strong understanding of compliance documentation, standards and testing for a global market
- Ownership of overall shipped total BOM. Partnering closely with supply chain to assess component availability and cost implications
- Effectively communicate trade-offs of technical decisions in terms of cost, time and performance implications
- Strong ties to customer impacts of technical decisions
- Outcomes in the first 3 months:
- You'll have picked up in-house design on an active, high priority program (< month 1)
- You'll be supporting early stage OTS (off-the-shelf) and JDM (joint-development-model) programs. (~ month 2)

Our take
Converge’s immediate focus has been to help civil engineers on construction sites better monitor concrete strength. Since its founding, Converge has deployed thousands of sensors across the UK, helping hundreds of engineers do their job more efficiently, and building deep insight and expertise in the construction industry by connecting the physical environment.
Construction work involving concrete typically requires manual monitoring, lab tests, waiting games and over-pouring. It’s inefficient, expensive and damaging to the environment. Converge’s flagship product helps to avoid all this.
It is able to use the data collected from its portfolio of projects to predict future concrete behaviour. London City Airport was the first commercial project that combined data including temperature readings from the concrete with local weather forecasts, to give a prediction of when the concrete will reach strength.
Converge's ambition is to reduce average cement content in concrete by 15%, estimating a 26 megaton carbon emissions reduction per year by 2030. It is currently expanding its suite of modules to include the optimisation of construction logistics and structural health.
