Who you are

Minimum of 5+ years working experience in Software Development and/or Linux Systems Administration role
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and lead/assist in incident response
5+ years of experience in software development and/or Linux systems administration in production environments
BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience required
Hands-on experience with Kong API Gateway or similar enterprise API gateway technologies
Operate and troubleshoot the gateway in production: routing/services, plugins, TLS/cert management, authn/authz, and performance/latency tuning
Own lifecycle and reliability practices: upgrades and configuration changes (IaC/GitOps), safe rollouts/rollback, monitoring, etc
Hands-on experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd or Kuma
Strong understanding of traffic management concepts, including routing, retries, timeouts, circuit breaking and traffic shifting (canary, blue/green)
Familiarity with mTLS, service-to-service communication, and zero-trust networking principles
Experience troubleshooting service mesh-related issues, including latency, connectivity, and policy misconfigurations
Development experience in one or more of the following programming languages:
Python (preferred)
Bash, Go, Java, C++, or Rust
Distributed data storage at scale (Ceph, Rook)
NoSQL at scale (MongoDB clusters, sharded Redis, Cassandra)
Data Aggregation technologies. (ElasticSearch, Kafka)
Scaling and running traditional RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL) with High Availability
Observability and incident management: Prometheus, Grafana, alerting/on-call workflows, post-incident review
Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Rancher) at scale
Release Engineering (Package management and distribution at scale)
S/W Performance analysis and load testing (QA or SDET experience: a plus)

What the job involves

As a part of Sony Computer Entertainment, the Gaming, Developer, and Future Technology group (GDFT) is leading the cloud gaming revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device, from TVs to consoles to mobile devices and beyond
Our SREs focus on three main things: overall ownership of production, production code quality, and deployments
The successful candidate will be self-directed and able to participate in the way we make decisions at different levels
We expect our SREs to have opinions on the state of our service, and provide critical feedback during different phases of the operational lifecycle
We are engaged throughout the S/W development lifecycle, ensuring operational readiness and stability

Our take

Since the release of the PS1 in 1994, PlayStation has been a consistent leader in the video gaming market. Its consoles are iconic in the gaming community - PlayStation has produced both the top-selling and fastest-selling console of all time - and the company is still pushing boundaries. Its current flagship - the PS5 - promises to revolutionise gaming, featuring new technology that will create improvements across the board.

As well as its consoles, PlayStation has also developed online services, connecting its users and giving them access to diversified media. A PlayStation can be used for a huge range of activities - from Netflix to guided workouts - which has led to the expansion of the company's audience over time and across generations.

PlayStation faces competition in its field from the likes of Microsoft, with its Xbox range, and PC gaming, which has been becoming more popular in recent years. Regardless, PlayStation shows no signs of slowing down. The upcoming implementation of in-game ads in free games looks to significantly increase revenue, and the wider PlayStation gaming experience also appears to be evolving from plans to launch live service games in upcoming years.
