Who you are

Experience working between high-performing design and engineering teams, including production-ready design systems and tools (e.g. Figma handoffs)
Proficiency with React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets
Background in trading, market data, or quantitative finance
Hands-on backend experience building APIs, working with databases, and migrations
Full-stack experience with backends in Python or Rust, including REST API design
Familiarity with Storybook or similar component documentation tooling
Good communication skills and work ethic for a remote workplace

What the job involves

We're looking for a midlevel or senior IC to join our Platform/API engineering team. You'll be responsible for building, maintaining, and promoting our JavaScript client library, working closely with our design team to bring production-ready interfaces to life
This role is primarily focused on TypeScript/JavaScript, with some full-stack/Python work as well
Own, build, and maintain our JavaScript client library, ensuring it is robust, well-tested, and easy for external users to integrate with
Integrate native libraries into JavaScript/TypeScript code using tools like N-API, node-addon-api, or Wasm
Build responsive, performant front-end applications using React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets
Contribute to full-stack projects, including backend work in Python (or Rust), REST API design, and database/migration work
Work between design and engineering teams to translate designs (e.g. Figma handoffs) into production-ready components and design systems
Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including publishing to npm
Document components using Storybook or similar tooling
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth feature rollouts and updates

Our take

Despite the exponential growth of data within fintech, the majority of financial data providers continue to provide inconvenient services, with high licensing fees, slow infrastructure, and difficult onboarding processes. Furthermore, taking a new dataset to production requires high cost commitment and a large lead time, which can be difficult to manage.

Databento aims to democratise the financial industry and transform the way businesses use data platforms. It sets itself apart by eliminating all expensive up-front costs so that businesses only pay for market data as and when they use it. In doing so, they fit any company's budget and needs, no matter the size of the business.

2024's Series A funding round is being used by Databento to fuel its product enhancements such as a data history extension and a new flexible pricing plan. It is also putting the foundations in place to expand its European marketplace share.
