Role
Who you are
- Are comfortable leading a team of analysts to deliver data led change - helping them to understand the impact of their work and how it is connected to the wider business strategy, create clear development plans with an investment in your team’s technical skills
- Are passionate about partnering with senior leaders to drive better decisions - delivering reporting and analytics to make recommendations on key business strategies. Using your analytical skillset to partner with the business and ensure actions being taken are moving us in the right direction
- Value and promote the benefit of best in practice data quality - improving our data quality using the data maturity framework set by our Data governance team to make it easier for us to look at performance data end-to-end
- Are able to lead prioritisation calls with senior leaders - creating business cases for large projects and able to lead conversations to effectively prioritise whilst trading off against capacity for functional priorities
- Have mastery of the key technical skills - Understands and addresses the factors for optimising SQL query performance and is competent in tuning them. Sets best practice and supports with troubleshooting and coaching for other members of the Analytics community. Knows different error handling techniques, including dealing with complexity issues. Produces best in class visualisations that are varied and tell a story clearly
- Keep up to date with the latest analytical techniques - is aware of how analytics is being used in other areas, both inside and outside of OVO, and brings that knowledge to fulfilment. Suggests work that can be done using the latest tools to bring value to the wider team
What the job involves
- Reporting to: Senior Data Analytics Manager
- Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person
- You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life
- We are looking for a highly skilled leader to join our dynamic Fulfil Pod, where you will lead a team of experienced analysts to provide insight and reporting on all things fulfilment, across both the Pod and the Functional area
- You will bring thought leadership and problem solving skills, partnering with others in Fulfilment to ensure that change aligns to our strategic goals and the benefits can be tracked
- You will enjoy the detail of metering processes and build a deep understanding of the end to end whilst being able to filter and prioritise the highest value analytical opportunities to lead delivery of these
- Leading and mentoring a team, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring the team delivers impactful work of a high quality
- Partnering with the pod and the function to improve end-to-end processes within Fulfilment, supporting both OVO’s 2 Year Plan and the longer term strategy in Fulfilment
- Managing conflicting priorities, using agile methodologies to understand the value and size of projects and ensuring they support business priorities
- Using your analytical skillset to support the business in understanding the customer
- Acting as a champion for analytics - improving data maturity and literacy within the team and with those using our data. Making sure that data use is meeting ethical and legal standards
- Identifying opportunities for analytical insight, proactively highlighting where action is required to resolve adverse performance or opportunities exist to improve performance
- Collaborating with top leadership (Directors and VPs) in shaping their domains, particularly from a data perspective. Bringing thought leadership on strategy, and how we can use the technologies of the future to shape our direction
- Contributing to and challenging business priorities at the top level, using data to support any opinions on objectives. Ensuring data is being used to drive decisions and maximise opportunities
- Actively supporting and coaching the development of a team through dedicated frameworks such as development plans and career guidance
Our take
On average, home energy represents 26% of our carbon footprint. Ovo Energy wants to bring this to zero by providing cheaper, greener and simpler energy to customers. It's analysing meter data to deliver easy, personalised actions, turning electric vehicles into power stations with clever chargers, and building energy-efficient heaters. For households, it's offering is organised into four different energy plans, that include interest rewards on energy credit balance.
In 2020, OVO completed the acquisition of SSE Energy Services' retail arm for £500 million, meaning that the challenger brand now has around 4 million customers in the UK.
While helping Ovo members halve their carbon footprints, the company is also working towards becoming a net zero carbon business by 2035. The challenges ahead for the company include encouraging consumer behaviour change, shifting towards subscription models for home energy use.
