What the job involves
- The Honest Company is seeking a Director, Corporate FP&A to own the company's consolidated financial plan and forecast, and is a trusted thought partner to the executive team
- Reporting to the SVP of FP&A, this leader will translate business performance into clear insight, drive the annual operating plan and rolling forecast processes, and prepare the financial narrative that informs leadership, the Board of Directors, and our investors
- This is a high-visibility role for a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable building a model, coaching a team, and presenting a point of view to senior executives. You will partner closely with Accounting, Investor Relations, and senior leaders across the company
- Planning and forecasting: Lead the annual operating plan and periodic forecast, integrating inputs from commercial, supply chain, and functional teams into a consolidated P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow view
- Performance management: Own monthly and quarterly results analysis, including variance-to-plan and prior-year bridges, and deliver clear, actionable commentary on the drivers of revenue, gross margin, operating expense, and adjusted EBITDA
- Enterprise KPI tracking: Lead tracking of the company's enterprise operating priorities and KPIs, establishing clear metrics and targets, monitoring progress, and reporting performance and risks to the executive team
- Executive, Board, and investor support: Prepare materials for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and quarterly earnings, and partner with Investor Relations on guidance development, external messaging, and consensus analysis
- Operating expense and headcount: Drive the corporate opex and headcount planning process, partnering with HR and functional leaders to manage spend and resource allocation against plan
- Decision support: Build models and scenario analyses for strategic initiatives, pricing, capital allocation, and potential M&A, and present clear recommendations to senior leaders
- Process and systems: Improve the speed, accuracy, and scalability of planning processes, tools, and reporting, including continued development of our planning systems and automation
- Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate with Accounting on close, accruals, and reconciliation of forecast to actuals, and with Treasury on cash and liquidity planning
Our take
The Honest Company was founded in 2012 by Jessica Alba with the simple idea to create everyday products that are safer, gentler, and more transparent about what goes into them. The brand built its reputation on "clean" personal care - things like baby products, skincare, and household items made without any of the harsh chemicals. Because of this approach, it quickly gained popularity with families looking for a trusted, easy-to-understand product.
Over time, Honest has grown into a well-known name in baby and personal care, with products designed for both kids and adults. Its lotions, shampoos and wipes are especially popular for being mild and easy on sensitive skin. In a fun and unexpected moment, even astronauts have taken notice, during the Artemis II mission, astronaut Christina Koch mentioned missing Honest's lotion while in space, showing just how widely love the brand has become.
The company has been going through a bit of a reset though, deciding to step back from selling directly to customers online, choosing instead to focus on retail partnerships and wholesale. This shift is part of a larger plan to cut costs and simplify the business after slower growth. While it means less direct control over how customer shop the brand, it should help Honest become more profitable and focused, leaning into what it does best while relying on big retail partners to drive scale in the future.
