Role
Who you are
- 5–6+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus and frontend exposure
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, React, Microservices, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS
- Experience designing scalable systems and distributed architectures
- Daily experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code
- Strong understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD), software engineering best practices, and clean code principles
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
Desirable
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban)
- Experience building highly scalable SaaS platforms
- Passion for continuous learning and adopting modern engineering practices
What the job involves
- We don't just need another Senior Software Engineer—we're looking for a builder who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and delivering scalable, high-quality software that creates real business impact
- You'll play a key role in shaping and building the technology powering our Talent Operations platform, working on backend services while contributing to frontend development when needed
- You'll influence technical decisions, contribute to system architecture, and collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable solutions that support our global business
- We're looking for engineers who embrace modern software development practices and actively leverage AI-powered development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code to improve productivity and code quality
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services while contributing to frontend features where required
- Build high-quality, well-tested software following modern engineering and DevOps best practices
- Contribute to architecture, system design, and technical decision-making across the platform
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to deliver impactful solutions
- Review code, mentor teammates, and continuously improve engineering standards
- Troubleshoot production issues and continuously enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability
- You'll join our Talent Operations Engineering Team, where we're building the technology that powers global hiring and talent lifecycle operations
- Our fully remote engineering team collaborates across multiple countries, combining deep technical expertise with a strong ownership mindset. We value pragmatic decision-making, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and shipping high-quality software that solves real business problems

The travel restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in many workers being forced to work from home, and this led to many people realising that they could work remotely from anywhere in the world. This not only presents benefits for employees but also employers who have a larger pool of international prospective staff to choose from, but this comes with difficult HR management challenges.
WorkMotion develops bespoke SaaS platforms for the management of international hiring, onboarding, human resource management, and compliance across over 160 countries. This prevents businesses from having to set up foreign offices and workforces to handle international HR challenges, making global expansion more affordable and less time-consuming.
The challenges of managing international HR compliance have been brought to light due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and naturally, this means that WorkMotion faces competition from other companies tackling the same problems. However, the company currently stands out due to its bespoke handling of each client scenario, realizing that no single set of tools is sufficient for every company.
