Who you are
- Previous internship experience at a startup or financial institution
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in a related field with an expected graduation date of or prior to 2027
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

- Previous experience with data analytics platforms (e.g. Hex, Tableau)

What the job involves
- The Business Operations team streamlines the day-to-day management and strategic planning of the business, operations, and finances
- They work closely with cross-functional teams like the Product, Engineering, and Servicing teams to drive efficiency and scale the business
- As a member of this team, you will use your analytical skills to drive operational excellence across the business and fulfill Valon’s mission of creating a great user experience for homeowners
- We’re seeking an intern interested in pursuing a career in the housing industry to join the Business Operations team for a 10-week summer internship
- This individual will work closely with Business Operations, Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to develop domain expertise and operational processes to scale Valon’s Escrow vertical
- The ideal candidate will develop and use their skills to gather business requirements for self-directed projects and develop and implement new processes
- Create intuitive, efficient operational processes for the Escrow operations team
- Identify the impetus behind Escrow-related corporate advances and cut costs for the business accordingly
- Collaborate with the Escrow Business Operations team and execute on mission-critical projects
Our take
The mortgage servicing market is huge but surprisingly outdated. In the US alone, it covers roughly $13T in mortgages, yet many servicers still use legacy systems and manual processes to manage payments, compliance and customer support. Because mortgage servicing involves complex regulations and many exceptions, these older systems can be inefficient and costly to run, creating a strong opportunity for modern technology to improve how the industry operates.
Valon is trying to modernize this space with ValonOS, an AI-native operating system built specifically for mortgage servicing. The platform doesn't just store loan data, it also captures the rules and workflows behind servicing decisions. This allows companies to automate routine processes, improve visibility into operations, and manage compliance more easily. To prove the system works, Valon has also built and run its own large mortgage servicing business on the platform.
The company has gained strong backing from major industry players too. Investor Rithm Capital Corp. plans to roll out Valon's technology to over 4M homeowners through Newrez, one of the largest US mortgage servicers. If this rollout succeed, it could demonstrate that modern, AI-driven systems can operate at industry scale and potentially reshape mortgage servicing.
