Company mission
To create a new and unique way to discover who your friends really are in their daily life.
Role
Who you are
- You will bring senior experience ideally from a Socials or Consumer Product background
- You will bring a broad range of marketing and communications experience from Product, Crisis Management, Executive and everything in between
- Deep brand and marketing experience with a keen understanding of our user base
- You will have a demonstrated track record of delivering on cross functional comms/marketing projects (i.e., taking a product roadmap and building a 3-6 month strategy for each of the disciplines with their team--comms, branding, marketing--to deliver on measurable goals)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable acting as a company spokesperson
- Strong, established relationships with a broad range of media and outlets
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities. While Communications and Marketing expertise is expected we need someone with a keen business sense, a strong work ethic, and practiced interpersonal discipline
- You have the ability to operate independently, proactively, and cross-functionally with teams across the organization
- You are a self-starter who works well with minimal supervision, but shows excellent judgment about when to look to managers and teammates for guidance, and when and how to communicate with diverse stakeholders
- Most of all, a passion for BeReal and an excitement to help develop our brand message
- You will be based in the US or Europe, but have extensive experience supporting a global business with users all over the world
What the job involves
- This is our first hire in Communications and Marketing, meaning you will be hands on, getting in the weeds, as well as creating and leading our overall strategy
- Work with our leadership to develop a global strategy across all forms of communication
- Craft the foundational materials needed to deliver compelling, consistent narratives - both internally and externally
- You will manage external agency relationships across all geographies
- Tailor global storytelling to different markets
- Build and maintain relationships with key reporters
- Work with leadership to hone the overall impression and view of the brand
- Develop social strategies across both comms and marketing
- Be ready for anything and everything (we are still a scrappy startup) and know how to best support each issue quickly (be it yourself, outside support or relevant experts)
Our take
For years, much of our social media usage has been about curating and sharing images with "followers", many of whom may be strangers. BeReal's founders set out to disrupt this status quo by creating an app that focuses on meaningful interaction and spontaneity.
BeReal is one of a wave of social apps, including Poparazzi and NewNew, seeking to turn social media into a more natural and collaborative space. Every day, BeReal assigns its users a two-minute time-slot to upload a picture, encouraging them to display a more spontaneous snapshot of their day. Friends can respond to the image with comments or photos, but the app has done away with other classic social app features such as filters, follower counts and "likes".
Although competitors were quick to attempt to mimic BeReal's experience, its several million strong user base suggests that consumers are more interested in the original. The company has raised significant funds to further operations and development, and for now seems set on a promising road to further popularity and success.
