Role
Who you are
- Priorities shift quickly, so this role suits someone who enjoys ambiguous problems, picks up new domains fast, and is excited to grow into a full-time engineer on the team
- Recent graduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field
- Proficiency in Python; experience with C++ is a plus
- Familiarity with Linux environments
- Experience using agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex)
- Experience designing and conducting experiments from a scientific perspective and applying statistical analysis to extract insights from noisy, real-world data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate technical results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfort with ambiguity: ability to drive loosely defined projects, adapt to evolving requirements, and rapidly master new technical domains
Desirable
- Experience with GCP, BigQuery, or SQL
- Experience processing sensor data (e.g., radar, LiDAR, camera feeds)
- Experience with and enthusiasm for working directly with hardware and robotics platforms, including vehicles and sensor test rigs
- Familiarity with ROS or robotics simulation software
- Coursework or experience in controls, dynamics, or state estimation (e.g., MPC, Kalman filters, odometry)
- Experience handling 3D data and spatial geometry, including point clouds, coordinate frames, and rigid-body transformations
- Experience building data visualizations or interactive dashboards using tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, or Streamlit
What the job involves
- 40 hours/week in-office internship position for 6 months, flexible start date
- We’re looking for a recent graduate to join us for a 6-month intern-to-hire role working across our robotics stack: perception, controls, simulation, and robot applications such as asset tracking and site monitoring
- The common thread is measurement. You’ll design experiments and build the tools that tell us whether our systems work, how well, and why, then share what you find with the ML and control engineers who act on it
- Design and run experiments and test scenarios to measure system performance across perception models, controllers, and robotic applications
- Build and extend Python tools for evaluation, data analysis, and visualization
- Support simulation workflows, data collection, and hands-on testing with vehicles, robots, and sensors
- Help prototype and evaluate robotic applications, such as security monitoring and container inventory management
- Present findings to ML, controls, and product engineering teams, collaborating to track and resolve identified issues
- Opportunity for both the intern and the team to assess mutual fit for a potential full-time junior role
Our take
Radar technology presents a promising solution for autonomous vehicles and robots to see the obstacles around them. Yet, existing sensors are too low-resolution and struggle under challenging conditions. Solutions are beginning to arise for self-driving cars, but tackling challenges for fully autonomous robotics is significantly more difficult.
Zendar develops software-driven radar technology that augments the capability of radar sensors, leveraging AI to boost signal analysis to a higher resolution. Whilst its initial focus provides solutions for its automobile partnership with Hyundai, it is also developing hardware and software setups for automated agricultural machinery, robotics and trucking.
One of Zendar's biggest challenges will be the competition it faces from similar high-resolution startups. Despite this, the company stands out due to its semi-supervised machine-learning approach to radar, a technique that has worked excellently for aerial surveillance and has yet to be implemented into street-level hardware.
