What the job involves
- The VP of Finance is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity, stability, and operational efficiency of the company’s finance function
- This role oversees accounting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), financial controls, and financial reporting while driving process improvements and robust internal controls
- The position requires deep insurance industry experience and a strong understanding of financial operations to enhance transparency, efficiency, and financial risk management
- This role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and collaborates closely with the Executive Management Team and the Insurance Operations Team
- Develop and enforce strong financial controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices
- Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring compliance with FCA (UK), FSMA (Brussels, EU), and relevant US financial reporting regulations
- Ensure audit readiness, liaising with internal and external auditors to meet statutory and regulatory reporting requirements across the UK, Brussels, and the US
- Work closely with the company’s Chartered Accountant to ensure compliance with regulatory financial reporting and tax filings in the UK, Brussels, and the US, including preparation and submission of statutory returns
- Oversee tax compliance across jurisdictions, optimising financial structures to ensure tax efficiency and regulatory adherence
- Establish cash flow and working capital management processes to safeguard financial stability
- Liaise with banks to manage treasury operations, ensuring effective liquidity management and financial risk mitigation
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including financial close processes, reconciliations, and reporting
- Ensure efficient revenue recognition and cost allocation methodologies aligned with insurance industry standards
- Develop streamlined billing, accounts payable, and receivable processes to enhance financial efficiency
- Implement and maintain best-in-class financial systems, tools, and automation to improve accuracy and reduce manual processes
- Oversee the timely and accurate execution of payroll
- Manage foreign exchange risk for multi-currency transactions, ensuring efficient FX hedging strategies and cost-effective international payments
- Oversee and provide guidance to the finance team in FP&A, ensuring alignment with business strategy and operational priorities
- Review and challenge financial analytics and insights provided by the finance team to support decision-making across commercial, underwriting, claims, and operational teams
- Ensure the implementation and accuracy of product profitability reporting, enabling a clear understanding of revenue and cost dynamics
- Support the finance team in partnering with key stakeholders to develop cost-efficiency strategies that maintain sustainable business growth
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Risk, and Claims teams to align financial planning with business performance
- Provide financial insights to support pricing models, claims reserving, and capital allocation
- Support commercial teams in financial negotiations, contract structuring, and revenue forecasting
- Present financial reports and recommendations to the CEO and senior leadership team
- Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring high performance and professional growth
- Foster a culture of financial accountability and operational excellence across the organisation
- Champion continuous improvement in finance processes, driving efficiency and control enhancements
