Role
Who you are
- 5+ years experience as a data or analytics engineer and at least 2 year experience as a people leader
- 5+ years building production data pipelines and warehouse models, with strong SQL and working dbt proficiency. You can review a model and catch grain, fan-out and testing gaps
- Experience owning financial data that Accounting depends on: GL feeds, month-end close, reconciliation, audit support, payment processing
- Evidence of designing and implementing logical, well-architected solutions for complex, large-scale data engineering challenges
- Deep experience in database design & warehouse data modeling, scheduling & orchestration
- A track record of turning ambiguous stakeholder requests into scoped, estimated plans, and pushing back when capacity is short
- Clear communication with both accountants and engineers
What the job involves
- This role leads Finance Automation within Data Engineering. The team owns the financial data behind our general ledger, sales tax filing and month-end close: the dbt models, pipelines and NetSuite syncs that Accounting relies on to close the books accurately and on time. You’ll report to the Senior Manager, Data Engineering, and lead a team of five data and analytics engineers
- This role is part of our Analytics & Data Science team. Being Data Driven is a core value of Super.com and this team plays a huge part in this. We are long time advocates and users of Snowflake, DBT & Amplitude.
- This isn’t a place where we are convincing the business the value of data, or just using these tools for the first time. We have maturity in our technical practices, launch a new experiment every day, and are looking for teammates to roll up their sleeves and do high quality data work
- Oversee a full-stack team of 5+ data engineers or analytics engineers. You will be responsible for the continued staffing of the team, including being a key contributor to hiring processes
- Propel the business and engineering org forward by leading high-impact transformational projects end-to-end in an iterative, data-driven, startup environment
- Shape the technical roadmap for the team, contribute to product roadmap and OKR discussions, and drive the engineering agile processes for the team
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and growth, ensuring team members excel with oversight and mentorship, are working on projects at the intersection of interest, experience, and business impact, and have concrete opportunities for growth
- Drive high release quality and cadence by completing code reviews, ensuring end-to-end tests are written, and sustainable yet pragmatic development practices are followed
- Strategically contribute technically - write important design docs, tackle particularly intricate components / features or services, jumping in as an individual contributor when appropriate
Our take
eCommerce scaleup Super (formerly known as Snapcommerce) is looking to revolutionize the eCommerce experience. Instead of shopping around disparate sources for the best consumer product deals, Super wants users to be able to send a message to their account and have the best personalized deals returned, ready to purchase.
The company has tried-and-tested this approach with its flagship and original platform Snaptravel, which delivers travel deals via a text-like interface across Messenger, WhatsApp, and SMS. It proved a hit, crossing the $1B sales mark with nearly half of sales coming from repeat customers. This is substantial, as any significant overhaul of how people shop requires both efficacy and popularity to catch on - Snaptravel has both, which bodes well for the broader Super brand.
The recent boom in eCommerce has spilt over into a marked increase in mobile commerce, too. With Gen Z more likely to shop using mobile, and this demographic maturing into a substantial consumer demographic, Super, with some serious funding to its name, is poised to lead a bold and lucrative new wave in online shopping.
