Our take
Central to the development of the digital revolution is the role of electric grid infrastructure and expansion. A completely electrical infrastructure is restricted by the fact that electrical energy is difficult and costly to store. Form Energy, however, has created a reliable battery that has the capacity to revolutionise how we use electricity.
Revolutionising battery storage is at the core of Form Energy’s approach to making renewable energy universal. Its battery uses Iron-air technology that currently offers energy storage capacities and operational costs comparable to legacy power plants. In addition to improvements in cost and consistent electricity access, these batteries are scalable, portable, and safe - offering a unique approach to renewable energy storage.
Renewable energy storage remains an emerging industry, and a variety of competitors are developing alternate solutions. That said, Form Energy has bagged significant investment that enables early manufacturing efforts and securing of customers. Early progress is highlighted by a deal with Xcel Energy to supply systems for two of its retiring coal plants, and with Puget Sound Energy to help deploy multi-day energy storage systems.
