Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027
- Able to work from our New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond, based on your graduation schedule. Relocation support is available
- Previous internship experience is required
- Technical foundation. Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge
- Decisiveness. You have a bias toward action. You've built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship, and you know the difference between a decision you should make yourself and one worth getting feedback on. You'd rather move and correct course than stall
- Simplicity. You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language, whether or not the person you're explaining it to is an engineer. You look for the simplest solution that works, and you know when added complexity is worth it
- Job's Not Finished. You aren't satisfied when something merely works. You proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete. Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus
- AI Forward. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow
What the job involves

- Your interests & experience will be factored into our team matching process, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about teams across Harvey including Agents, Applied AI, Assistant, Enterprise, Infrastructure, Mobile, Vault and many others
- Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you’ll own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences
- Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers
- Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves
- Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data

Our take
The explosive popularity of generative AI tools has seen specialized solutions popping up for all kinds of industries. Hoping to help supercharge efficiency and productivity for legal teams, Harvey supplies generative AI that can assist with documentation, as well as aid research and optimize workflows.
Via natural language instructions, Harvey helps draft and analyze legal documents. It can also answer complex questions across large document sets, or even handle research queries that cover multiple domains in legal, regulatory and tax.
Its ability to support legal practitioners as if it's another member of the team is what makes Harvey particularly interesting. This approach has seen the company raise substantial funding, reaching Unicorn status in 2024. Funds are now being used to expand to new geographies, grow headcount and further collect and curate data to train more “domain-specific” AI models.
