Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of professional experience developing clean, scalable code in Python
- Strong working knowledge of Linux within embedded or constrained environments
- Familiarity with CAN or other embedded/automotive communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet, LIN)
- Demonstrated excellence in hardware/software triage, debugging, and root-cause analysis

What the job involves
- Zoox’s Robot Software Infrastructure Deployment team builds the critical systems that flash and update software and firmware across our vehicles and test fixtures—spanning development, manufacturing, and fleet operations. Our deployment system orchestrates updates across a massive ecosystem: advanced sensors, high-performance compute platforms, automotive ECUs, network switches, and user interface devices
- Because of the sheer breadth of this domain, this role offers a unique vantage point. You will maintain a high-level view of our entire architecture while possessing the sharp technical acumen to dive deep into specific components when solving complex engineering challenges. - Expand Capability: Design and integrate deployment support for next-generation vehicle components and subsystems
- Architect Infrastructure: Enhance the core deployment framework, developer tools, instrumentation, and integrations with broader engineering systems
- Optimize Performance: Drive systemic improvements in deployment speed, efficiency, and mission-critical reliability
- Root-Cause Failures: Triage, debug, and resolve complex deployment failures across hardware and software boundaries
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with Firmware, QA, Systems, Manufacturing, and Fleet Operations teams to ensure seamless end-to-end execution
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, opened its first Zoox factory for robotaxis in 2025 and is testing the autonomous vehicles in multiple cities in the US.
