Role
Who you are
- Start-up experience. You’ve worked with a variety codebases, and know how they scale
- Not a requirement but a little note from me, Neil 🤠 Our goal is to build a core engineering team with diverse views and clinical safety at its core. So, our immediate hiring efforts are focused on - previous experience building in healthcare, and addressing gender diversity in our engineering team
- A senior software engineer (product, backend or fullstack). We’re looking for engineers who can hit the ground running.
- You've built production applications using TypeScript and enjoy it 🧑🍳
- Experienced deploying, scaling and maintaining cloud applications!
- You’re willing to speak to real practice staff and optimise for releasing something impactful quickly.
- You’re happy to tackle problems without a clear definition or solution.
- You enjoy collaboration and place team success over personal success
What the job involves
- Deliver the next workflow automation products that our healthcare workers use and love. ‘Use’ meaning we 10x their productivity and ‘love’ meaning our products are a delight to use. We’re ultimately serving patients - our grandfathers, our mothers, our sisters - this is real impact for people in need
- Build and release new products and new features on top of our existing products used by NHS staff up and down the country. You’ll ship high impact code, daily!
- You’ll be one of our key technical experts, problem solving ambiguous product, scale and workflow automation challenges within the NHS ecosystem. You’ll help shape our engineering culture with a product focus
- You'll get stuck into solving of many of the NHS' toughest engineering problems including: building new functionality using a suite of national NHS APIs on top of our own automation APIs, architecting scalable load-balancing systems for workflow orchestration, developing a world-class healthcare staff facing portal, automating the next admin task in primary care

Our take
The NHS is one of the few totally publicly-funded healthcare services in the world, that has treated millions of people since 1948. However, growing pressures from an ageing population, higher patient expectations and the after-effects of the pandemic are having a negative effect on the system’s ability to serve patients with the care they deserve.
A major factor in the NHS’ struggles is the amount of time its staff spend on administrative tasks, which is what Healthtech-1 hopes to address. The company develops automation tools for repetitive tasks, such as patient registration, that free up healthcare workers to spend more time on treatment and care.
The company boasts support from NHS Digital as well as Innovate UK and Y-Combinator, and is clearly targeting a valuable problem. With its new patient registration product now live in over 500 NHS GP Practices, and its second product launched, it will be interesting to see how Healthtech-1 can further support the NHS moving forward.
