Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of professional software development experience in a high-performance team
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, LLMs for code/documentation generation)
- Hands-on coding experience in .NET (C#), React, CSS. Experience with SQL also required
- Strong experience with cloud-based development and deployment (Azure preferred)
- Proven track record in modernizing legacy systems or leading large-scale refactors/migrations
- Solid understanding of microservices, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines
- Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate technical projects with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities
Desirable
- Undergraduate or Masters Degree in Advanced Computer Science, Machine Learning or similar
- Experience building or fine-tuning internal AI/ML models (e.g., TensorFlow and PyTorch) or LLMs for developer tools
- Knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, or Kanban)
- Technical team leadership experience (formally or informally)
- Background in insurtech, fintech, or regulated technology domains
What the job involves
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and integration of AI-assisted development tools to increase team productivity and code quality
- Design and develop internal AI tooling or developer assistants to streamline workflows (e.g., documentation generation, test automation)
- Coach engineering teams on best practices for leveraging AI during software design, coding, testing, and documentation
- Drive the architecture, design, and implementation of systems during the refactor and migration from a legacy codebase to a cloud-native environment
- Work hands-on with code (primarily in .NET (C#), React, CSS) while promoting best practices in software engineering
- Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to build scalable, resilient systems on Azure and AWS.3. Software Engineering & Modernization
- Oversee product development processes, from initial concept through to release, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables
- Work with the development team to define and manage product backlogs, ensuring features are delivered in line with agreed priorities
- Oversee testing and validation of new product features to ensure they meet quality standards and client expectations.
- Serve as technical project lead for modernization and AI enablement initiatives, owning delivery timelines, resource planning, and milestone tracking.
- Coordinate across product, QA, DevOps, and engineering teams to ensure cross-functional alignment and timely delivery
- Identify project risks and roadblocks, and proactively implement mitigation strategies
- Regularly report progress to senior leadership and contribute to strategic technology roadmaps

Working with UK household insurers, SBS combines technology with innovation to streamline the claims process, covering claims across a range of categories, including leisure, travel, consumer goods, home and tech. Its platform includes validation tools and self-serve programs that accelerate claims processes without scrimping on quality and clarity.
A 2025 pilot scheme launched in partnership with UnlikelyAI was deemed a success. Utilising its partner’s LLMs and neural networks, the automated claims processing pilot positions SBS in good standing for future investment and product rollout. If it can keep ahead of the digitisation trend in insurance processing, SBS could grow to become a leader in the sector.
