Role
Who you are
- Several years of experience in full-stack development, with the ability to write both frontend and backend code
- Excellent skills in Node.js and React for building scalable applications
- Experience with GraphQL and Kafka (knowledge of queries, mutations, and message streaming is a plus, but prior Kafka experience is not required)
- Proficiency in writing automated tests with tools like Jest and Cypress
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality applications and a solid understanding of the full development lifecycle
- The ability to work with minimal supervision
- A proven track record working in a multi-supplier environment (desirable)
- Experience in creating high quality architecture / API designs based on past experience (desirable)
- Experience mentoring and developing more junior developers (desirable)
What the job involves
- Join our dynamic and ever-growing team as a Full Stack Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products
- In this position, you'll report directly to the Head of Engineering, collaborating closely with various cross-functional teams, including User Experience Design, Customer Service and Marketing
- You'll be at the forefront of building and enhancing our applications, working together with talented colleagues from different departments to deliver innovative solutions that meet the needs of our users and drive Cuckoo forward
- Develop new full-stack applications within our existing ecosystem
- Improve existing applications using Node.js and React, working across both the frontend and backend
- Build out our AWS hosted backend services and APIs, focusing on GraphQL and Kafka to power our service layer
- Implement automated testing to ensure high-quality code and continuous integration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and launch new features
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues and bugs for a seamless user experience
- Suggest improvements and enhancements to keep our technology competitive and cutting-edge
- Working independently to complete tasks on time and to a high standard
- About our tech:
- We use AWS as our primary hosting provider
- All of our infrastructure is written as code in either AWS CDK or Pulumi
- We have a ‘Cuckoo Service Layer’ which is a Kafka-cluster-powered event system
- We use Vercel for frontend deployments and hosting
- We have Timestream, Grafana, Dynamo and more
- We operate from GitHub and use GitHub actions to orchestrate testing and deployments
