Who you are
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related technical degree (e.g. Math, Physics)
- Solid technical knowledge of CS fundamentals and data structures
- Experience using one or more programming languages, including but not limited to: Python, Swift, Kotlin, and TypeScript
- Willingness to learn and incorporate feedback
- Passion for Patreon and working with Creators
What the job involves
- This internship will be a 12-week long summer program (May - September 2025) hosted in our San Francisco and New York offices and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model
- You’ll ship a real-world feature that directly impacts the creator economy and helps turn your favorite creator's passion into a living
- You’ll be part of a great team. You’ll be embedded into a world-class engineering team, working alongside fellow engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists to make your feature successful
- You’ll learn a lot. In the spirit of Win Together, we’ll pair you with one of our experienced engineers to mentor and guide you as you ramp up and work through all the technical challenges of your internship project
- You’ll have fun. Besides shipping a great product and partaking in Patreon's Intern Summit, you’ll experience San Francisco or New York City during your summer internship alongside your intern cohort!
Our take
Creatives face two major struggles in the online space: getting eyes (or ears) on their work, and getting paid for it. Patreon was founded to solve both problems with a platform that would provide a space for creators to host and promote their work, and offer supporters a way to show their support through a regular paid subscription.
Patreon has been a leader in the content subscription space since its founding, but recently has come under pressure from newer rivals such as Substack and Ko-fi. It has maintained its position by shifting its focus from being primarily a marketplace for supporters to find creatives that interest them to being a toolbox for content creators to promote their work. While the site's creatives value this approach it remains to be seen whether Patreon will be able to return to the growth it was enjoying in previous years.
Despite the inroads made by competitors and a troubling global economic outlook making finances tougher for content creators and their supporters, Patreon is still a leader in its space, with over 250,000 active creators having made $3.5B through the platform.
