Company mission

To better everyday life through robotics.

Role

Who you are

  • BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Statistics, Physics, Math, or another quantitative area
  • 4 years of industry experience and demonstrated Python proficiency through past work
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects from design to completion

Desirable

  • Experience developing evaluation frameworks, machine learning models, or robotics systems

What the job involves

  • The Autonomy Evaluation team works closely with the Autonomy ML teams on one of the main challenges in autonomous driving: measuring and improving the quality of NuroDriver, the autonomous driving software
  • We develop evaluation systems that assess the safety, compliance, and service quality of NuroDriver to identify ways we can improve the performance of our ML and robotics systems
  • This role can have any of the following forms (or the combination of any subset):
  • High-output Generalist working across infrastructure, visualizations, and metrics development. Such a role would develop Robotics and/or Data Pipeline domain knowledge over time to eventually also perform the functions below
  • Robotics Expert working closely with the ML teams to develop targeted evaluation algorithms powered by classical robotics (e.g. 3D geometry or prediction algorithms), ML techniques (e.g. reward modeling), or statistical methods (e.g. hypothesis testing)
  • Data Pipeline Expert working on the data pipelines that enable large scale data simulation and transformations for high velocity and robust metric computation
  • Design and deploy algorithms to measure the performance of the ML models that power our self-driving car's behavior, using robotics, physics, and machine learning
  • Implement simulation-powered large-scale data pipelines to continuously measure autonomy performance against safety, compliance, and service quality requirements
  • Develop user workflows and data visualizations used by ML engineers for day-to-day development
  • Work cross-functionally with ML and Infrastructure engineers to set the technical roadmap that will continuously improve and unify the evaluation frameworks across Nuro

Our take

Nuro offers custom-built autonomous vehicles for the delivery of physical goods, rather than people. Its vehicles have a distinctive, futuristic, design that has not only made the vehicles noticeable from a marketing point of view, but, has also made its vehicles stand out to other road users, improving safety.

Nuro is an exciting addition to the autonomous vehicle landscape. Without a passenger inside the vehicle, it has been able to sidestep some of the safety issues that have plagued other autonomous vehicle brands. Additionally, the company has landed several high-profile partners, including Uber, Walmart, Chipotle, and Kroger.

With home deliveries at an all-time high, many companies are looking for ways to get goods to customers’ homes as fast as possible. Low-cost, efficient services such as Nuro's offering are becoming increasingly attractive. The company is turning its focus to commercializing and scaling the production of its third-generation vehicle at a new facility in Southern Nevada as it hopes to expand its services across the US.
