Company mission
GameChanger's mission is to help families elevate the next generation through sports.
Role
Who you are
- 4+ years leading engineering teams and 6+ years of software development experience, with a track record of managing and growing engineering talent at all levels
- You have technical depth in one or more areas of our stack, with enough breadth to engage credibly in architecture conversations, hold a consistent standard for quality and reliability, and maintain the trust of senior engineers
- You have good product instincts, build strong working relationships with Product and Design partners, and know how to align on priorities in a way that drives meaningful outcomes
- You are active in developing your own AI fluency and in helping your team do the same. You hold a high bar for judgment and ownership regardless of how code gets written
What the job involves
- Our Basketball engineering organization is building and scaling the products that will help GameChanger grow in the most-played youth sport in the country. Within that org, the Coverage team owns the core experience of getting every game onto the platform: scorekeeping, live video capture, and the coaching tools built on top of that data
- As a Senior Engineering Manager on this team, you will lead a cross-functional group of engineers working across iOS, Android, and backend platforms, partnering closely with Product and Design to make covering a game as fast, reliable, and low-friction as possible. You will report to the Director of Engineering for Basketball
- Coach and develop your engineers, setting clear expectations, identifying growth-oriented opportunities, and establishing a consistent cadence of feedback that fosters both development and accountability
- Define clear delivery goals for your team, partnering with cross-functional partners to shape priorities, navigate trade-offs and surface risks before they become problems
- Set and hold a consistent bar for engineering craft and system reliability, especially around live, in-game workflows where failures are highly visible to users on the sideline
- Hire and onboard strong engineers, keeping the bar high on values alignment, skill fit, and AI fluency
- Contribute to engineering culture and organizational effectiveness beyond your team through cross-team initiatives and helping shape how the broader org operates
Our take
The competitive nature of sports has always been driven by scorekeeping, and nowadays results are often consumed online. However, for smaller teams it can be difficult to provide this information digitally, as they do not have dedicated web development staff.
GameChanger provides a scorekeeping and statistics platform for sports teams to engage with their fans, that allows viewers to track the progress of a game in real-time similar to with professional sports. The company also embeds a live-streaming service into the platform to facilitate remote viewing, helping to increase audience engagement.
Whilst some sports teams already stream events on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, most do not have the technical resources to achieve this. GameChanger has recognised this gap in the market, providing a simple yet unified platform for sports scoreboards and streaming, providing a fair opportunity for any team to maximise their community engagement.
