Who you are
- Deep experience with Kotlin and/or Java
- Deep understanding of advanced Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
- Deep experience designing and integrating with RESTful API's
- Experience with various third-party libraries and SDK's
- Experience with data encryption and secure coding practices
- Able to operate in a fast environment with teammates in other continents
- Excellent English communications, both written and spoken

- Familiarity with cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin), payment systems, and blockchain technology
What the job involves
- You will be the main Senior Android Engineer building our payments solution which plays a key part of the Proton product ecosystem
- You must be capable of building a highly secure and reliable Android app that will be used by millions from around the world
- You will have the opportunity to play Product or Project Managers roles and lead the whole development and testing process
- Differently than many other stacks at Proton, the Payments stack depends largely on external services such as payment providers (e.g. Stripe, Braintree..., but also Google and Apple), tax-information providers, currency-conversion providers... As such it is critical, for the success of the service, to build with resilience
- With payments being the backbone of any subscription business, we have ambitious plans to expand the team to cover a wide breadth of topics ranging from demystifying payment performance data across regions/products, to thinking about the holistic strategy of product catalogs, and everything in between
- This particular team requires someone who is a strong generalist, who thrives with ambiguity. There's huge potential for growth no matter the domain, and the outcome for any candidate is an indepth view into how money moves globally

Proton is a Geneva-based startup founded by former CERN worker and internet privacy advocate Andy Yen. It provides internet users with encrypted webmail, calendar, drive, and VPN services.
Proton maintains its pro-privacy ethos using a Swiss VPN, protected by strict Swiss privacy laws. In essence, it has established a connection between the personal and the political, smartly utilising the country’s national laws to benefit people and organisations globally. Proton also funds charities and movements such as the World Wide Web Foundation and Netblocks, further cementing it as an influential NGO.
Perhaps Proton’s most important quality is its determination to maintain independence from advertisers and companies. Originally founded on donations, Proton has funded itself via grants rather than venture capital so that all of its customer's data is never at risk of being mined. One effect of this is that to keep up with the increasing competition in the data privacy sector, Proton has expanded its services to allow more cross-selling and simultaneously has more products to offer, such as drive and calendar privacy.
