Role
Who you are
- You have experience of 4-7 years in software development
- You have been professionally engaged in developing, maintaining and deploying microservice-based applications written in Spring Boot for at least 4 years
- You are an expert in Java 8 (or newer versions) and you have sound knowledge and experience in clean design of modern REST APIs
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles, including CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g., Git), Java, automated testing (e.g., JUnit and Mockito), and data management with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
- During your previous roles, you have gained robust knowledge with Spring Data, data modeling and SQL databases
- Nice-to-have: Ideally, your Java development skills are supplemented by experience in working with asynchronous / event driven systems

What the job involves
- We are currently looking for an experienced Java engineer to join our existing team and shape the future of global commerce with MODIFI!
- Create, extend and test microservices written in Java / Spring Boot, using a variety of related technologies
- Write clean and maintainable code following best practices , that your colleagues love to read and easily enhance
- Analyze non-technical requirements and discuss your own technical solutions with the team
- Initiate, participate in, and communicate technical architecture designs
- Work closely with Frontend Engineers and Product Managers in order to build best in class products for our customers
- Extend and advance the data model
- You enrich the team with your competencies in agile software engineering methodology and your experience with microservices-based architectures
- Your role will be crucial in influencing the platform's direction, with the potential to impact customers, stakeholders, and your fellow team members
- Take full ownership and responsibility for your code throughout the whole software development lifecycle (you build it, you run it, you own it!)
- Rapidly fix bugs that occur in production
Our take
SMEs play a vital role in global trade, representing 98% of exporters and contributing 30% to global volumes. However, over half of their trade finance requests are rejected by banks, creating a massive $1.5T funding gap. This leaves SMEs unable to seize new trade opportunities despite growing global trade and consumer demands.
Modifi aims to bridge this gap - it provides SMEs with simple digital solutions to finance and manage their trades, protect them from counter-party risk, and easily track their shipments. It services over 1,000 buyers and sellers across more than 40 countries. Since being founded in 2018, Modifi has grown at an astounding rate and is now the only digital trade finance platform for SMEs that spans the three major trading regions of Europe, Asia and North America - a cluster which encompasses approximately 80% of global imports and exports.
Following major funding across multiple rounds, Modifi's current strategy is focused on addressing increasing demand and helping more SMEs trade internationally on their digital platform. Fundamentally, with the OECD predicting that the trade finance landscape is to undergo "profound changes" in the coming years, Modifi has a great opportunity to be at the forefront of change for the better.
