Company mission

To create truly great products.

Our take

37signals was founded in 1999 as a web design company. With the ever changing world of technology by mid 2004, the company shifted its focus from web design to web application development.

37signals first-ever commercial application was Basecamp (and its most popular) - a web-based project management tool, enabling growing businesses to deal with their projects seamlessly and allowing effective communication across the board. Subsequently, there were other versions of Basecamp that were released over the years, namely Basecamp Research focusing on biodiversity as the foundation of a cleaner, greener & more sustainable future for all led by a team of experts.

With the success of Basecamp, 37signals changed the name of the company to Basecamp in 2014. With the company specializing in more than just Basecamp, the company reverted its name back to its parent company 37signals.

The company is also best known for HEY, a premium email service and writing business and software books (Getting Real, REWORK, REMOTE, It Doesn’t Have to Be Crazy at Work, and Shape Up), and inventing the Ruby on Rails framework.
