Our take
Virtual healthcare is becoming increasingly important, partly due to the pandemic, partly due to the over-demand for doctors, and partly due to the progress made in technology that makes it a logical next step. 98point6 provides round-the-clock availability, allowing patients to access healthcare no matter where they are.
The company uses algorithms and natural language processing, along with data input from the patients and certified physicians to diagnose patient problems and suggest treatments. Based entirely in messaging, physicians can refer patients that need to see someone in person to the correct provider, and write prescriptions or recommend treatments themselves if applicable. This sort of healthcare can make primary care vastly more affordable to Americans.
The app is not intended to replace primary care, but offers patients help and advice at a low cost, and can handle conditions such as sunburns, infections, asthma, and STDs. Other businesses, such as CirrusMD, are moving this way, so it remains to be seen whether the 98point6 can stand out through its use of AI and low-cost options.
