Our take

The original Airtime video app was launched in 2012. The public’s reaction was underwhelming and the app soon faded. Airtime’s latest app has the same name, but it’s a whole new product, being reinvented as a social group video viewing app. This time around the app has proven to be considerably more popular, with millions of users worldwide.

Airtime brings groups of friends together via smartphone, enabling not just chat, but group activities such as watching a YouTube video or listening to a playlist together. While products such as Zoom and Skype have been popular with businesses and families, Airtime has found it’s place among teens and college students.

Moving forward, Airtime is considering creating original content for its users to view via its app. An interesting option that could see users opt for the app over alternatives such as House Party.
