Our take

Allbirds manufactures eco-friendly wool shoes. They are dedicated to making the most sustainable footwear possible using premium natural materials, designed for the to and fro of everyday life.

The company's commitment to making better shoes in a better way is fuelled by a belief that the shoe industry needs to focus less on flash and more on thoughtfulness. Allbirds have funding from leading venture capitalists in consumer products, which is unusual for a footwear company, and gives them the fire power to make bold bets in a crowded market.

Allbirds started as a direct-to-consumer online retailer but has since expanded to brick-and-mortar - in 2023 opening a pop-up shop in London's Selfridges department store. It follows the blueprint set by successful consumer companies like Warby Parker, who similarly disrupted the eyewear market.
