Alpakas' mission is to make groceries sustainable.
Packaging waste has increased steadily and alarmingly in recent years, driven by changing consumption patterns. More people than ever order groceries to their door and smaller portion sizes for single-person and childless households means more packaging. Environmentally conscious shoppers are looking for an alternative. Alpakas, is responding with its zero-waste delivery service.
Operating in central Berlin and Munich, Alpakas has a range of about 1000 grocery products, each sourced from local providers and either organic or produced to the same standards. Targetting an environmentally-conscious niche by focusing on its supply chain, plastic-free packaging and delivery, it hopes to stand out in the German high-speed delivery sector, which is currently dominated by giants Gorillas and Flink, who prioritise speed over sustainability.
Alpakas has recently completed seed round funding led by Vorwerk Ventures. Having added central Munich to their service area and expanded their stock to include frozen goods, they are planning to extend their delivery range from the city centres to the outskirts. If the market share for environmentally conscious to-go deliveries is out there, they will be an exciting company to watch.
