Our take

Female wealth accumulation is at an all time high, growing at 1.5x the rate of men, and retail investing is growing at unprecedented levels, with no signs of slowing. Yet, investment platforms remain heavily male dominated and the UK has a £15bn gender investment gap. From a lack of female role models in the investment industry to wider cultural norms discouraging women from investing, there are a number of reasons why this has traditionally been the case. Now, the industry needs to look at how to better engage and inspire more women to invest, which in turn could increase investment confidence and participation.

Alpher's goal is not only to get more women investing, but also to reshape the way women think about the subject. Their solution provides support networks for women to build investment confidence and combines this with an investment solution designed to enable women to accumulate wealth over the long term, whilst meeting the goals and values they aspire to.

If Alpher can achieve this, the knock-on effect could be huge. With The Pathway to Inclusive Treatment estimating that an extra £2.36tn could be invested globally if current barriers to women's involvement are lifted, Alpher could play a huge part in women's financial liberation. Backed by Angel investors, Alpher's key focus at the moment will be to build and develop its platform.

Mini began their career in banking, spending over 5 years as VP Prime Brokerage at Bank of America. They are also an Angel Investor at Alma Angels.
