To reinvent how people book and spend a night at the movies.
Cinema attendance in the US is at a 30 year low, with box office takings threatened by the rapid rise of online streaming platforms like Hulu and Netflix. The recent increase in direct-to-streaming releases has only exacerbated this problem.
Atom Tickets seeks to rekindle interest in in-person cinema experiences by combining a booking platform with social features. In addition to viewing listings and purchasing tickets (as well as ancillaries like popcorn and upgraded seats), users can track which films their friends are watching, and even organise polls to decide on group outings. In an attempt to reach younger audiences, the company recently released ticket booking app built into the Snapchat platform, giving users an easy way to book tickets with friends.
Atom is part-funded by major film distributors, including Lionsgate, Disney and Twentieth Century Fox Film and partners with all major theatre chains. In addition to generating revenue through commissions on tickets sold, the company also sells consumer insight data to studios, helping them to understand which films are most popular.
