The nature of building a business, especially one that has little precedent in the context of how we wish to build it, means that courage is a key requirement. Courage is what makes us take the risk and confront the potential of failure, so that we may also dance with success. Courage means speaking truth to power, which only makes our organisation stronger. Feedback is one of life’s most precious gifts, and the only feedback worth receiving requires courage to deliver.
  • Optimise for upside Teams spend too long protecting against downside. But while loss is effectively limited to 1x, upside is unlimited. For too long, products have been reactive, defensive and confined. Not ours. We are playing to win. Thus, as we believe time is our most precious asset, we see the biggest loss as not building towards the grandest goal. We encouragingly push ourselves and others to seek the largest potential in our work, and to thoughtfully and productively navigate the most effective route to it.
  • Know the user Becoming a truly trusted advisor is a pinnacle of achievement in any domain. To reach this, we go further than walking a mile in shoes, or asking 5 whys. We are so curious to conceptualise true objectives, pressures, preferences and habits that we’ll stop at nothing to properly understand them. This means we must be closer to the user than ever before. In some cases, personally aspiring to their ambitions and achievements, living them, and then surpassing them.
