B Lab’s mission is to inspire and enable business as a force for good through the B Corp movement.
There’s increasing pressure from consumers, stakeholders, and in some cases governmental regulations, for businesses to brush up their environmental and social impact practices. For those who can prove watertight and comprehensive ESG credentials, business gets a boost. This has more companies than ever seeking out B Corporation status from B Lab.
The certification is awarded by B Lab if organisations can prove a high level of social and environmental performance, and is therefore useful to companies both to iron out their internal practices, and appeal to an increasingly ethically-conscious consumer market. Over 5,000 businesses from nearly 160 industries across the globe have achieved this status. B Lab UK is, predictably, the UK branch of the non-profit, and has been seeing good uptake.
As the B Corp movement gains momentum and larger, more complex companies seek to achieve certification, there will be new challenges for B Lab to address. Nevertheless, B Corp certification remains a popular and credible feather in a company’s cap. Particularly in this climate, B Lab seems likely to see continued interest.
