Our take
Half of all mental health disorders take root before the age of 14 years, yet upto 70% of CYP don't get access to timely support. Demand has increased by almost 50% in the last 10 years, and existing models of support are struggling to cope. Appropriate and effective digital technologies can bridge this gap in a safe, cost effective and scalable way and are a priority area for the NHS, NIHR & DfE.
BfB Labs has developed video game-based digital interventions to improve emotional regulation and childhood anxiety. The company developed the first MHRA-approved mobile game for paediatric anxiety, Lumi Nova, using the evidence-based CBT method of exposure to help players overcome common anxieties and fears. Another game requires players to wear a Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitor, as players’ success is based on their ability to remain calm and focused.
The company’s suite of evidence-based games supplements traditional therapy by enabling the NHS, Clinical Commissioning groups, schools, local authorities, and authorised professionals to provide its accessible and affordable digital interventions. BfB Labs’ innovative interventions are pioneering the future of gold-standard mental healthcare for children.
