Founded in Turkey, Bakkal markets itself as an ethnic grocery store, targeting individuals looking for a taste of home. It also provides small independent supermarkets and ethnic grocery stores with a means of reaching a wider customer base. Bakkal is currently active in LA and the Bay Area, but it has plans to scale to other locations.
Although there are numerous specialty grocery websites, Bakkal sets itself apart by functioning in much the same way as apps like Gopuff and Deliveroo. Its unique messaging and its diverse ingredients range further sets it apart. This will be an invaluable distinction in the years to come.
