Our take
Beam (formerly Edquity) was founded in 2016 to address the fact that many students in America are unaware of the safety nets and funds available for those struggling during their educational years. However, after seeing governments and some nonprofits struggle to disperse critical benefits to people, it has expanded its platform to help even more individuals.
The company’s platform streamlines often arduous and complicated processes, simplifying applications, aid decisions and processing, payments, compliance, and more. This enables governments, nonprofits, colleges/universities, and philanthropic organizations to administer a wide range of financial assistance programs (from rental relief to public utility benefits to emergency cash assistance) through one single management system.
Beam also provides the infrastructure for over 50 governments, institutions, and non-profits in more than 16 states. Beam continues to scale and expand its offerings, and in 2026 was acquired by Beam. This move will see Beam enhance Strata’s case management, claims processing and payment capabilities.
