Our take

There is a big trend towards cycling and urban mobility solutions in general, with many bike and scooter sharing brands coming to market over the last few years. Beryl started out by producing a bike light, seeing early success when London's fleet of sharing bikes ran by TFL adopted the lights.

They have now produced a bike of their own and have expanded their mission from bike lights to providing infrastructure for cities to run shared bike schemes. Beryl is working closely with cities rather than pursuing hyper-aggressive expansion (like bike-sharing companies Mobike or Ofo in London, who have either pulled out of the city or dramatically reduced their coverage), which has given them the edge in building a more sustainable business in the space.

Beryl is strategically extending its services in locations across the UK where it has seen popularity, such as in Hereford. Further, recent e-scooter legislation from the UK government means that e-scooters could become legal on the roads. If this goes ahead, the market for the company will significantly widen and Beryl's customers will have another sustainable way to get around cities.
