Better Origin's mission is to fix the broken food chain.
Insect feed for farmers is a less commonly used food source for hens given its high costs and time-consuming nature. Currently, most hens live off a non-optimised grain and soy-heavy diet that can inhibit natural foraging behaviours, and the vast majority of the seed that gets fed to the chickens come from South America. This causes a problem: shipping things over very long distances is very expensive and damaging for the environment.
Better Origin was created to reduce the heavy costs involved with insect harvesting to offer a viable, sustainable alternative to existing bird feed. Its automated shipping container factories allow farmers to recycle food waste in one end, which is fed to insects, and then feed those insects to their animals, reducing feed consumption costs and lowering emissions while boosting productivity for the farmer.
The company currently has five mini-farms up and running, but is planning to grow rapidly over the coming years. As Better Origin works with a carbon-negative process, it also aims to lead the way in sustainable feed distribution for maximum efficiency in the long term.
