Our take

The concept for Better Place Forests came about when founder Sandy Gibson visited his mother’s grave and wondered if there couldn’t be a more pleasant place to be laid to rest, one that would be nicer for loved ones to visit.

Better Place Forests purchases large plots of forest land and legally ensures that this land will never be developed. Customers can choose to bury the ashes of their loved ones under the roots of a tree which is theirs forever. The result is a beautiful and peaceful place for anyone visiting, with trees marked with a simple plaque to identify them.

With the acquirement of recent capital investment, Better Place Forests continues to grow, purchasing new forest locations, taking reservations for thousands of green burials and creating online tours of its forests. Rather uniquely, Better Place Forests also accommodates pet burials on its land, something that isn’t usually permitted in a cemetery.
