To accelerate the green energy transition with safe and efficient wind turbine inspection, maintenance and repair using robotics.
30% female employees
Funded and sponsored by InnovateUK, Catapult Offshore Renewable energy, and other sustainability-focused investors, BladeBUG is an advanced robot designed to inspect and repair the blades of wind turbines.
As the renewable energy sector enters a massive period of growth, challenges have arisen concerning the upkeep and life extension of the growing number of wind turbines. BladeBUG engineers can control the six-legged robot from out of the line of site, meaning that they are kept safe, whilst also keeping maintenance costs at a minimum.
Built by a former wind turbine engineer to address the challenges he foresaw, BladeBUG may be a small company but has great potential to grow and reach more international clients. Furthermore, the versatile and flexible robot, which has passed the R&D phase, has the potential to assist in other sustainable energy industries too. But BladeBUG should take its project one step at a time, just as its sturdy product does.
